Last May, 2007, I was working out in our front yard doing some gardening, and I heard a little pathetic cry. I looked up and it was a very frail looking black kitty, she could barely stand up, let alone walk, and was bleeding some.
She rubbed on my leg and looked up with another very desperate cry for help! With that, I put down what I was doing and picked her up gently and brought her up to the house. I set her up on the back porch on a soft blanket on the lounge chair there with food and water nearby. We had just lost our precious cat, Simba, in March that we'd had for almost 17 years, (& our dear 13 1/2 year old Cocker Spaniel, Gabby, the year before that) and had decided we didn't want to get another pet for awhile, we 'thought'.
We were going to help take care of this little abandoned kitty and find her a good home, like we'd done before (with the help of "The Haven" & "BARC"). We took her to our veterinarian and had her checked out and got her shots and some medicine for her. He said it looked as though she'd had a miscarriage and that she was only about 9 months old, but that she should recover. We took her home with us and within a very short time we fell in love with this very sweet kitty and decided there was no way we could give her up! We're so glad we did! She's added so much love and joy to our lives and is lots of fun! She is very affectionate with us, always rolling around on our feet and rubbing on our legs, and loves to play ball and with her toy mice and other toys with us. She is an indoor cat, as we want to keep her safe and keep the birds outside safe that come to our bird feeders every day. She is very entertained by watching the birds, lizards and any little critter out through our many windows. She even loves to watch T.V. with us. She sits right in front of the T.V. and watches it quite often. We named her Silkie because of her very pretty shiny, silkie-soft black coat. She even wakes me every morning with a gentle little kiss on the cheek! We can't imagine our lives without her now! Here's a picture of our sweet & beautiful Silkie.....
